Coaches, being the persistent worriers that we are, always are concerned about how teams will bounce back after tough losses. Well to be honest we worry about how we will bounce back after big wins as well!! Basically we worry about everything that involves the team. That being said I was pleased with how our team responded this week and how we played against a very talented East squad. East had a good game plan and they executed well so we were in a battle most of the evening. I was really impressed with their offensive line.
The radio crew selected SR nose-gaurd DJ Walker and SO RB/QB Colton Neel as the Mercury Players of the Game. DJ has really played well and is a key part of our defense but he also came in and made some huge blocks for us on offense. Colton had a great game as well reeling in 9 catches and making a huge play when he went to QB in our short yardage package. Our Buzzard Player of the Week this week goes to SO offensive lineman Win Duncan. Each week the coaches watch the scout teams to see who is really working hard and this week not only did the film show how well Win was doing but also our D-Line nominated him for the award.
We have had a tough opening 6 weeks and have been tested, all to get us ready for the next 3 weeks with three regional games. Up this week of course are our rivals on Walnut Grove and they look to have one of their best teams in recent history having destroyed all of their opponents. More on this later in the week.
