After a long, tough, regular season it all comes down to our last game. To win the region we must win this game this evening. Sort of fitting. I have been very proud of this team the entire year as they have earned my trust that each week they prepare themselves to play well at practice and then have followed through with that on Friday nights. This week has been no exception. We have had good practices which are fueled but the efforts of our unsung heroes, the boys who make up the scout teams. Without the dedicated work of the younger and sometimes not so younger players the guys who play on Fridays would not be ready.
Tonight is also the night we honor our seniors. It is always an emotional time when these guys play their last regular season game at home. The fan tunnel is a bit louder, moms have tears in their eyes, and dads proudly wear their son's jersey. Then we introduce the group on the field where they are acknowledged by their underclassman teammates and coaches, a tradition that goes back many years. This year's group can hold their heads high as stewards of our team.
Briarcrest comes into the game with a 7-2 record that matches ours. Their two losses were to good teams in CBHS and White Station. As usual they have a solid QB in BJ Nagle, a good running back in Jay Moore, and a good receiver in Kenneth Echols. Defensively they have good players in DJ Evans, Hunter Bledsoe, and Andrew Foster.
At this time it looks like the rain will be out of here and we will have some great football weather for this evening!! So put on your new sweater and come out early to help our team win the region championship!!
