Our 8th grade football team capped a great season with a 30 - 6 victory over Houston in the Shelby County League Championship game this past week. The team finished with an unblemished record and put together another dominating performance against a much improved Houston team. We are all proud of this team's accomplishments and salute their coaches who worked tirelessly throughout the season.
Coach Wade offered this recap of the game:
The 8th grade owls capped an undefeated season with a dominant 30-6 win over a much improved Houston team. As the coaching staff has preached all year long; it all starts up front with the line. Our offensive and defensive line controlled the line of scrimmage all night. We are not the biggest team, but our guys have learned good technique. They play with great heart and effort to help their teammates. I am very proud of all our guys that work on the line of scrimmage. Our offense is a multiple- style offense. We can play wide open spread, and we can play wildcat power football. This is a testament to the talent and work of all our players. We scored touchdowns using both spread and power. A team that can execute both of these is hard to handle. Tonight our guys were hard to handle. Our defense is based on 11 players getting to the ball, each player playing his role first, to help his team. Blue jerseys swarmed to the ball all night long. The defense created numerous turnovers and even scored on a pic 6. Awesome!! Our special teams were ... well lets just say “special” They did their job to help the team.
Thank you to everyone who came out to support the 8th grade Owls.
Clay Smythe, Ann Laughlin, Julia Debardeleben helped organize a fun fall night. All fall sports teams were recognized as Dax Torrey read recaps coaches provided for each team. The lower school athletics and parents association provided food for a pregame tailgate, and the MUS pep band rocked the house all night.
After the game the celebration began. This group like to have “fun”
They performed chants and cheers and even chased down the very nimble and agile coach Heathcott and dumped water all over his body.
It is great to be an MUS OWL.
