8th grade goes to 4-0

The 8th grade team continued their win streak last night with a 41-0 victory over MAHS. The team looked sharp from the start using a punishing run game on offense and a suffocating defense. Next Wednesday at 6:30pm the team takes on Airways Middle School.

Thanks to the dads who have volunteered this season to keep the chains. We are equal opportunity employers for those jobs so make sure you jump in when you get the chance!!!

Change in 8th grade schedule

Southside has requested a change in our game this week from Wednesday the 24th to Tuesday the 23rd. The game will begin at 6:30pm at MUS.

8th Grade Updates

The 8th grade has no morning practice tomorrow (Thursday, Aug11) as they have a scrimmage tomorrow evening at 6:30. They will practice early on Friday at 6:25 but that will be their last morning practice. Next week practice is from 5:00pm to 7:00pm. Remember that the boys must go to ASAP if they remain on campus after school.

We will have a bus for the team to go to Brighton next week. The bus will take the boys there and return to MUS but parents may check the boys out with the coach to return with them if more convenient. More info on the time schedule later.

Message from Coach Wade

After a very busy August which included 1 scrimmage and 3 games, our team enjoyed the open week.We started with a pre-game tailgate party before the varsity's game with South Panola.

We enjoyed great weather, great food and beverage, and the parents and players were able to relax and appreciate  the time together.

A huge thank you goes out to Marilyn Hergenrader for organizing this event.

Last week the team got back to work, and  we had some good spirited practices.

Monday,  we will practice in shorts, t-shirts and helmets.

Tuesday we will face a very good Ridgeway team.

Ridgeway is a very talented team. They have big linemen and numerous athletes who are capable of making big plays.

We will need to be focused, disciplined and ready to play our best.

Last week the 8th grade team started the season with a good win over Brighton.

This week we play Hickory Ridge on Wednesday, and next week we play White Station on Tuesday.

8th Grade Starts out with a W

Congrats to the 8th grade team for an impressive victory over Brighton. Brighton is an excellent team that comes well prepared so this was a very nice win. We are glad to report that MaLeik Gatewood was sent home from the hospital last night with a good report. We are really blessed at MUS to have such a professional medical team to watch over the boys. Katie and Dr. Tabor were great again last night and we really appreciate their handling of the situation.

8th Grade Update

8^th grade football players need to be at the school on Thursday, August 19 at 5:15 pm.  Please have the boys meet in the film room across from the training room.  Game time is 6:30 pm.  Tickets for the 8^th grade game are $ 4.00. 

Also we will need 3 dads at each game to run the chains. Please be on the field 10 minutes before kick-off.

 

8th Grade Practice - Friday, Aug 13

Please be in stretch lines in old gym dressed in football pants, tshirt, and tennis shoes at 3.45.

Please bring shoulder pads helmet and cleats also.

We will start inside and are hopeful we can go outside for a few minutes.

We need to have a good focused practice today.

Our first game is next Thursday.

8th Grade News From Coach Wade

We will practice friday morning from 7am-9am in order to limit the issues due to the heat index.

We are hopeful we can have a good Full contact practice to close out the week.

All players should be in the stretch lines at 7 am.

I know this is early and requires sacrifice by all. I appreciate the efforts of all the parents, players, and coaches to make this happen.

The varsity football team is scheduled to have a scrimmage Friday night at Mus at 7.30.

All 8th grade players are welcome to attend(not required) Coach Wade

Lower School Season is in Full Swing

Our 7th and 8th grade teams both got started this week. The 7th grade team this year is competing in the Parochial League which is made up of teams that play their 8th graders. Our first game was against St. Louis who is a PAA powerhouse. Our young guys competed well but came up on the short end of the scoreboard. They have their hardest games early so we will see them get better as they go along.

The 8th grade went to 2-0 last night with a convincing 20 - 0 score over Ridgeway. They have a quick turn-around and play Colonial on Thursday at Halle Stadium.
