First Week Review

Our week of "dawn to dusk" was went very well thanks to so many people. First I want to thank our seniors who provided great leadership all week through some very "HOT" practices. We maintained an excellent tempo all week and accomplished a great deal on the field as well off. Secondly our coaches worked very hard through 3 practices a day. They had a great spirit and did an excellent job teaching our boys. A special thank to our senior manager Drew Cornaghie who really had a lot on his plate this week but managed to keep everyone outfitted. Dave Ferebee, as always, was one of the first to arrive and last to leave each day making sure that our players receive the best medical care.

The week could not happen as it does without the many moms who share their midday with us helping serve lunch. Thank you does not seem nearly enough but we say it anyway. And tonight was such a great way to cap the week with the senior dads cooking steaks and hamburgers for the boys and coaches families. Thanks Dads.

Every year at the end of the season our seniors are polled on some of there favorite memories of the football days. Almost all of them mention something about this week which in a way is most remarkable but for those of us that have been through a week of two a days we remember the special bonds that are formed. Our team has grown much closer this week as we prepare to launch our 2008 season.

Game Change for 7th Grade & 9th Grade

The 7th grade game against the Shelby Tigers, a combined team from Woodland and Lausanne, has been changed to Thursday, October 18 at 5:00pm. This will create a double header with our 9th grade game against Briarcrest which will cause the kick-off for that game to be at 6:30 instead of the previous announced time of 6:00.

Great job by the 8th grade team last night in a win over White Station! Coaches and players really worked hard to be game ready in a very short time. We will post practice dates for next week soon.

Sunday Film Session for Parents

A long tradition at MUS started by Coach Rudolph is that we show the game film on Sunday evening for any parents that wish to attend and replay all of the good and bad from Friday night, but more importantly just amke sure that we are all on the same page. When this began there was a single copy of the game on 16mm film so this was the only way to rewatch the game. Today of course our games are filmed for the parents by Chad Holland and we also film the games for the coaches to evaluate. We will continue to have this meeting on Sunday afternoons at 5:00pm in the Wunderlich Auditorium. The film we watch is the coach's copy which has an intercut sideline and endzone view. I will be there at the beginning to give a brief overview of the last game and of our opponent for the upcoming week. This is not a session where we evaluate coaches and player perfomances publically. That is something that we only do in our film sessions with the boys. Please feel free to join us on this Sunday at 5:00 but do not feel obligated to do so.

Weekend / Labor Day weekend / Fall Break Schedule

Our typical game weekend schedule calls for us to be off on Saturday, (except this week) and then have a meeting with the varsity boys on Sunday from 3:30 to 5:00. The boys need to clear any absences in advance.

I have had a few calls about practice plans for Labor Day weekend. We will not meet with the varsity guys on Sunday of that week. We will have practice on Monday, Labor Day at 6:00pm. That usually gives everyone ample time to hunt or get back from out of town.

The week of fall break we will not practice Wednesday through Sunday.

Change in Frosh Weekly Schedule

On Friday the freshmen will scrimmage the White Station Freshmen in the 3rd quarter of the scrimmage that evening. Because of this there will be no freshmen practice on Friday. The team should report to the gym on Friday at 5:30.

Practice Schedule: August 6-10

Monday: Varsity Films at 2:30, Practice from 4:00 to 6:00. Frosh 4:00 to 5:15

Tuesday: Varsity Practice 4:00 to 6:00. Frosh Practice 4:00 to 5:15

Wednesday: Varsity Practice 4:00 to 6:00. Frosh Practice 4:00 to 5:15

Thursday: Varsity Practice 4:00 to 6:00. Frosh Practice 4:00 to 5:15

Friday: Frosh Practice 3:00 to 4:30. Varsity Scrimmage vs White Station @ MUS- 6:30

Saturday: Captians at Bridges. No Practice

Sunday: No Practice. Kick-Off Dinner @ 5:30 PM

First Week of Practice

Our first week of practice which begins Monday, July 30 is slightly different than we have done the last few years. The 10th-12th graders will report at 7:30 am each morning of the week and stay at school until the afternoon practice is completed at 6:45pm. The freshmen will practice each afternoon from 3:00 to 4:45pm. On Monday we have a few pictures to take for the football program that we missed in the spring. Those pictures will be taken at 3:00pm. This schedule allows us to give more individual attention the first week as we teach our system. The second week as we go to more team preparation will go back to everyone practicing at the same time. We will post the exact practice times latter next week for the week of August 6.
