Men's Lacrosse To Play Navy At Texas Stadium In March

Crusaders to play Navy on March 15 in Dallas as part of the 2008 Patriot Cup.
Jan. 19, 2008

WORCESTER, Mass. - The Holy Cross men's lacrosse team will play Patriot League opponent Navy on March 15 in Dallas' Texas Stadium as part of the 2008 Patriot Cup, a four-game lacrosse showcase featuring some of the nation's premier collegiate and high school programs. Dallas-based TITUS Sports Marketing, which is managing the event for the North Texas Chapter of US Lacrosse, released the official announcement at the US Lacrosse National Convention in Philadelphia.

The Patriot Cup will feature a college doubleheader of Holy Cross vs. Navy at 12:00 p.m. and Rutgers vs. Army at 3:00 p.m. A pair of high school match-ups will also take place as Episcopal School of Dallas will face St. Mary's of Annapolis (Md.) at 9:30 a.m. and Dallas Highland Park will battle Memphis University School (Tenn.) in the final game at 5 p.m.

Proceeds from the event will benefit Wounded Warrior, a non-profit organization which seeks to assist those men and women of our armed forces who have been severely injured during the conflicts in Iraq, Afghanistan, and other locations around the world.

The 2008 Patriot Cup will be the first lacrosse games played in Texas Stadium, which is home to the Dallas Cowboys and hosts more Texas high school football playoff games annually than any venue in the Lone Star State.

Ticket and additional event information for the 2008 Patriot Cup will be available in the coming weeks at www.2008patriotcup.com.

Varsity & J.V. Players

Like last year, all MUS Lacrosse players are required to be members of US Lacrosse. Your membership lasts for one year so make sure you have renewed your membership. Returning players must turn in your membership information before Friday, February 1, 2008.

Lacrosse Combine

This year we will have a “Lacrosse Combine”. The combine will take place February 2-7. You will be tested in the mile, 40, shuttle run, bench press, and quick stick wall drill (Left & Right). This will be a determining factor for making the varsity and JV teams this year. You must be there.

Monday (2/4/07): Mile Time
Tuesday (2/5/07): Bench Max
Wednesday (2/6/07): Shuttle Runs
Thursday (2/7/07): Quick Stick Wall Drill (Left & Right)

Suggested Items for January & February

I would suggest that you get the following items for January and February!

1) Back-up Stick: heads break in the cold weather. Get a back-up stick & break it in!

2) Cold Gear: Invest in a good base layer to protect you against the cold. We will have plenty of work outs and practices in the January and February cold air. I suggest Cold Gear by under Armour or some other technical fabric! Royal Blue or Gray

3) Buy some plain Gray sweat pants.

4) Shoes for the old Astroturf. Running Shoes are the worst possible shoes to wear on Astroturf! Invest in some turf shoes… or basketball shoes, tennis shoes, cross trainers.

5) Invest in cleats. White cleats with Royal or Navy!

6) You need to own a jump rope and keep it in the locker room.

Spring Break 2008

This spring the Varsity lacrosse team will be traveling to Dallas, Texas for Spring Break.

We will be going to Dallas on Wednesday, March 12 and return to Memphis on Sunday, March 16.

We might have a game against Jesuit on Wednesday, March 12 at 4:00 or 4:30 pm. I am still working on the game time. I would like to play later, but there are some field scheduling issues.

We have games scheduled (Episcopal School of Dallas & Highland Park) for Friday, March 14 and Saturday, March 15. The exact time, locations, and who we play will be determined at some point in time! I am still waiting to hear from the group that is organizing and scheduling all of the games.

The following is what I have received…

Friday, March 14 @ 7:30 pm vs. ESD or HP
Saturday, March 15 @ 5 or 7:30 pm vs. ESD or HP

We also have Army vs. Rutgers and Navy vs. Lehigh in Texas Stadium on Saturday, March 15.  This is a huge opportunity for all of the attending plays to get visibility to the college game but also seen by college coaches.  Last year, Navy-Holy Cross was at SMU, but they raised the rent and Jerry Jones offered up the home of the Cowboys.  His grandsons play MS lacrosse at ESD.
