In one of the most dominating performances I can remember the Lower School track team capped off a great season last Friday night. The team got off to a great start during the field events on Thursday. Strong showings by Drew RIchmond (2nd in Shot Put), David Nelson (2nd in discus), Jack Gray (3rd in discus), Bradley Foley (3rd in long jump), Gaines Whittington (5th in long jump), and then the 1-2 finish in the high jump of Rashad Orange and Preston White (Both cleared 5'4" with Rashad winning based on fewer misses) MUS had a large lead going into the running events Friday evening.
Orange and Whiitington started on Friday as they finished 2nd and 3rd in the 100m hurdles. The next event was the 4*100 relay where the team of Chris Davis, Nick Dunn, Bradley Foley, and Terrell Jackson not only won but set a new school record. This started a trend. In the next event, the 1600M run, Pierce Rose ties the school record (Set 30 years ago by Shea Ross) in bringing home a gold medal. In the 100M Dash the team got a gold medal by Malik Gatewood and a bronze by Nick Dunn. The 4*200 relay team of Chris Davis, Gaines Whittington, Stewart Love, and Nick Dunn kept the gold medal charge going. Next up was the 400M dash where all season long Terrell Jackson had assaulted the record book breaking and setting new school records each week. He continued in that mode as he flew to victory followed closely by Brad Foley in 4th place. All the team was charged up for the next race as Rashad Orange attempted go after the longest standing lower school record set by our own Judd Peters back in 1977 in the 800M run. With a great closing kick and the support of his teammates Rashad sprinted to victory and the league and school record. Pierce Rose finished a strong 2nd. Dunn and Davis bring home a 2nd and 3rdplace in the 200M dash. The lone disappointment for the meet was in the 4*400 relay where the group of Orange, Hays Moreland, Foley, and Jackson smashed the school and league record by over 4 seconds but were DQ'ed for a baton infraction. Still the team scored 154 points which more than doubled the 73 points accumulated by 2nd place ECS. Also the Dan Griffin Outstanding Athlete Award went to Rashad Orange.
A special thanks to Coaches Bakke, Rogers, Husseth, and Kiehl for their work all season with this very talented group.
